Up for an Award
Strand House nominated for AA FRIENDLIEST LANDLADY OF THE YEAR award.
Mary Sullivan, Partner at Strand House has been nominated from 4000 establishments in the AA Guest Accommodation scheme as a finalist in the 2008 AA Friendliest Landlady of the Year Competition.
One of only 20 finalists in this prestigious national award Mary will have to wait for the award presentation in London on 4th June to find out if she has won.
Not a bad start to a venture not even a year old! The nomination coming from the AA Hotel Inspector herself, a recommendation indeed.

Great Food
Food is at the heart of Strand House. Ingredients are, fresh, local and cooked with skill and passion by Mary and her team. The menu changes daily depending on what the fishing boats bring into Rye Harbour or the local organic farm has in meat and of course the alchemy of the chef means the menu is always a work in progress!
Breakfast:
A full Sussex breakfast.
Organic local reared sausages and bacon from Food Fore Thought.
Salmon, continental meats.
Veggie breakfast with homemade beans and potato cakes.
Healthy buffet, Northiam Dairy yogurts, Kent Apple juice.
Lunch:
Sandwich plate or Cheese plate.
Packed lunches / picnics on request.

Afternoon tea:
All homemade with Sussex cream.
Hand made cakes. Local berries.
Strand House special with Champagne.
Dinner:
Strand House dinner a foodies delight! All local and seasonal, changing daily. Organic locally reared meats from Food Fore Thought. Fish from the boats from Rye Bay. All this with 20 years professional experience bring together a dinner to remember.
Local wines and Rother Valley Brewery beers.
Special diets:
Mary has a wide experience of vegetarian menus and can create cooking for diabetics and gluten intolerant diets. Please let us know if you have an special requirements before you arrive and we will do our best to meet them.

Traveling to Strand House From London
From the M25 take the M20 down as far as Ashford Junction 10. Then Turn off onto A2070 heading South and drive across two roundabouts. There is then a slip road signposted A2070 Brenzett and Lydd Airport. Take this and go straight across the roundabout at the bottom staying on the A2070. Follow the road to Brenzett and go straight across the roundabout following the A259 for Rye. Go around Rye on the A259 heading for Hastings and Strand House is two miles beyond Rye, just before you get to Winchelsea.
Alternatively, from the M25 take the A21 Southbound past Tonbridge about 12 miles to Flimwell. Turn off here onto the A268 to Rye and then the A259 to Hastings and Strand House is two miles outside Rye, just before you get to Winchelsea.
Traveling to Strand House From Kent and Channel Ports
Travel along the M20 to Junction 10. Turn off onto A2070 heading South and drive across two roundabouts. There is then a slip road signposted A2070 Brenzett and Lydd Airport. Take this and go straight across the roundabout at the bottom staying on the A2070. Follow the road to Brenzett and go straight across the roundabout following the A259 for Rye. Go around Rye on the A259 heading for Hastings and Strand House is two miles beyond Rye, just before you get to Winchelsea.
Strand House is approximately 35 miles from the Channel Ferry Ports and the Channel Tunnel Rail Terminal. Journey time is 30 minutes from Ashford Junction 10.
Traveling to Strand House From Eastbourne
From Eastboune head out of town towards Pevensey and take the A259 coast road to Hastings. Pass through Bexhill and Hastings, and follow the A259 towards Rye. You will pass the entrance to Winchelsea but stay on the A259 until you go around a hair-pin bend at Winchelsea station. Strand House is about 200 yards past the bend on the right hand side, just past the turning for Winchelsea and a house on the corner. Slow and indicate as you come over the hump beside the turn and our entrance is immediately on the right.
Traveling to Strand House by rail
There is a regular service from London Victoria and Charing Cross to Ashford with about 6 trains an hour. Change here for the service to Rye which has 1-2 trains an hour.
