Strand House is a hotel situated in a Tudor House that used to be the town's workhouse, known as Painted around 1828, this view of Winchelsea shows a battalion of soldiers marching up Strand Hill with a group of camp followers in the foreground. Strand House which would have been a Workhouse at the time is obscured by the soldiers but is shown in the original sketch for the painting. Part of a sketch book compiled by J.M.W. Turner in 1816 called
