Romantic, historic charming little B and B in Rye..

Staying at Strand House allows you the opportunity to stay in an original building dating from the time of Henry V that was once the town Workhouse. The comfortable surroundings offer a peaceful retreat to relax and unwind, set in beautiful countryside and close to the coast.

The house is close to the preserved town of Winchelsea and only 2 miles from the ancient town of Rye. Both are great places to explore and Rye offers a range of quaint old fashioned shops and is the ideal place for an afternoon tea.

There is plenty to see and do in the area from windsurfing and coastal walks at Camber Sands, to shopping at Tenterden and at the Outlet Centre at Ashford if you fancy a quick bargain. There is the new Jerwood Art Gallery in Hastings and Battle Abbey where the Battle of Hastings was fought.

The area is known for its good food, especially Fish and Romney Marsh Lamb and the nearest pub to Strand House - the New Inn is just 5 minutes walk away while there are other good pubs at the Queens Head in Icklesham and the Plough at Udimore. Rye has a good selection of restaurants but we like to recommend Webbs Fish Cafe and the Landgate Bistro for their fish, the Tuscan Kitchen for Italian, the Ship Inn and Globe inn Marsh as gastro pubs and the Ambrette serves modern Indian 'fusion' cusine. Outside town the Curlew at Bodiam is a Michelin starred restaurant and Nobles at Battle is worth a look.

Strand House can offer afternoon teas by arrangement and we do dinner on Saturdays and some Fridays.

For guests who have special diets, we can cater for gluten intolerance and dairy intolerance, for other dietary requirements, please let us know.
