13th Century Strand House
The house dates from the 13th Century making it even older than the famous Mermaid Inn Rye. It was a hospital inhabited by monks and was added to in the 15th Century when it was the village workhouse. Its position was originally on the shoreline below the town and outside the defensive walls. It is full of period detail with has low oak beamed ceilings in many of the rooms, winding stairs, inglenook fireplaces in both the lounge and dining room, leaded windows.
Strand House has Bedrooms with Character
Strand Guest House Rye has ten bedrooms, all of which are different in character size and style. They range from the luxury four poster Tudor Room to rooms with double beds, king and twin, a garden room on the ground floor and a family room. Two have baths and the rest en-suite showers, all have colour televisions, tea making facilities with hand made biscuits and hanging space. The superior rooms have tables and chairs and fluffy dressing gowns and use of a DVD / video library.
Strand House is surrounded by Medieval Rye & Winchelsea
The historic medieval towns of Rye and Winchelsea are within walking distance and can fill a day, looking in shops, eating in tea rooms, walking the cobbled Mermaid Street and admiring the local architecture. The house is an ideal base for exploring the local houses and gardens in the area such as Great Dixter and we have many National Trust properties within a comfortable drive including Sissinghurst, Batemans, Scotney Castle, Smallhythe Place, and Bodiam Castle.
